11:06am | Officials are advising residents to be cautious after someone attempted to gain access to the inside of a home by impersonating a City of Long Beach gas utility employee. Two such incidents occurred on Friday.
According to the Police Department and office of the City Manager, all gas and oil employees will be in full uniform at all times, and will have City identification with them at all times and must present it upon request. Residents can always request proof of ID before allowing an employee access to their home or business. Call the Long Beach Gas and Oil (LBGO) 24-hour dispatch center at 562.570.2132 or 2133 to check an employee and the service call they are responding to.
If you’re unconvinced that an employee is not legitimate, you can contact the company directly for verification or call 9.1.1 to report any suspicious persons or activity.
