10:28am | Firefighters responded to a call on Friday evening to find a second-story apartment unit in flames in the 4400 block of Olive Ave.

A moderate amount of black smoke was pouring from the window and firefighters quickly used ladders to climb onto the roof, then using chainsaws to ventilate it and relieve intense heat and smoke inside.

Below, more firefighters armed with hoses entered the unit through the front door to battle the blaze, located in the bedroom. The fire did not spread to surrounding units because the bedroom door was closed. The fire was extinguished within 14 minutes upon receiving the call (including the five minutes it took to arrive on scene).

The occupant made it outside safely and no injuries were reported. Damages are estimated around $50,000, even though the fire was contained to just one room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
