8:45am | Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske is inviting residents to the next Shaping Up the Fifth walk-through in Lakewood Village, taking place October 1st, from 8:00am to 10:00am.

“If more people walk, they can take more time to scrutinize each street for cracks and potholes, elevated sidewalks, missing signs, graffiti and other issues that make people feel sad about their neighborhood,” Schipske says.

“It’s also a great way to do something great for your body, and neighborhood with your neighbors, “ she adds.

This month’s walk covers the square area between Bellflower and Lakewood from Carson to Del Amo.

Residents should wear comfortable shoes, hats and sunblock, bring water and meet at Pan American Park, 5157 Centralia, at the corner of Centralia and Charlemagne.

Residents of the fifth district have walked the Ranchos, Carson Park/El Dorado Park North and El Dorado Park South neighborhoods during the summer months.

“All the service requests are processed into the city’s database, and my website at www.lbdistrict5.com,” Schipske says. “ Residents can click on the maps under Shaping Up the Fifth, which are updated every two weeks to see what’s happening with them.”
