1:30pm | Brookfield Homes and the Long Beach Housing Development Company (LBHDC), the nonprofit arm of the City of Long Beach, worked together to transform a blighted stretch of land along the Atlantic corridor and create quality, affordable homeownership opportunities in Long Beach.

According to Ellie Tolentino, City’s Manager of the Housing Services Bureau and Vice President of the LBHDC, Coronado not only changed the look of Atlantic Avenue but has created a sense of revitalization in the neighborhood.

“It is beautiful and has made a huge difference in the area,” Tolentino said, and later added, “We believe in assisting projects like (Coronado) for they act as catalyst for more investment in the community.”

According to John O’Brien, Vice President of Urban Infill at Brookfield Homes Los Angeles, their efforts are centered on the desire to give back to communities and the community at Coronado exemplifies the company’s commitment to a process that gives thoughtful consideration to each city’s history and culture, and invites stakeholders to be a part of the vision.

The LBHDC made buying a home in Coronado possible for moderate income families with a robust assistance program. This involved a second mortgage through the LBHDC that made up the difference between what each homebuyer qualified for, based on household income and family size, and the homes’ market value.

Coronado homeowner Linda Kelley never thought she could own a home, let alone a brand new home in Long Beach. For Kelley, and others who want to live in Long Beach, Coronado provided the opportunity to own a nice home she can live in for the rest of her life. “We’re not leaving the city and taking our tax dollars with us,” Kelly said.

Each of the two to four bedroom townhomes come with amenities such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, green features that save money on utilities, a security system with one year of free monitoring and an attached two-car garage that provides direct interior access to the home.

While the homes have all been spoken for, the Coronado sales team is still taking reservations for final opportunities and at (888) 565-6279 or visit BrookfieldLOVE.com.
