3:30pm Friday | Alan Patalano has been named the new Chief of the Long Beach Fire Department, according to a press release today.
Patalano has served as Deputy Chief of the LBFD for the past eight years and has more than twenty years of experience working with the City of Long Beach. As Deputy Chief, Patalano managed the Support Services Bureau that oversaw the Training Division, EMS Education, Quality Improvement Division and Fire Communications Center.
Former Chief Dave Ellis stepped down in September 2009 due to health concerns, after five years in the position.
“I’m privileged to be chosen for this position, and I look forward to improving the quality of life and safety of the Long Beach community,” Chief Patalano said. “My career with the Long Beach Fire Department has been highly rewarding and I look forward to stepping into this new role.”
Patalano, along with Deputy Chiefs Jeff Reeb and Mike Garcia, had been managing the department since September 2009.
“With over 25 years in the fire service, and over 26 years as a licensed paramedic, Chief Patalano has the experience to lead the Long Beach Fire Department,” Mr. West said. “He has a history serving the Long Beach community and will do a great job in leading our Fire Department.”
