We said before Wilson started the North Orange County Basketbal Tournament that the 3-2 Bruins were in search of an identity. It’s safe to say, after their fourth consecutive win put them in the tournament championship game last night, that they’ve found that identity. His name is Michael Wilder.
Wilder has been leading the team all season, but he’s continued to develop impressively—in the 48-37 victory over Capistrano Valley, the 6’2″ senior scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds—he’s averaging 28 points per-game in the four tournament contests they’ve won.
Wilder has been effectively backed up by the big man in the middle, Joel Bitonio, who starts at center for both the Wilson football and basketball teams—Bitonio is currently averaging a double-double. Josh Bell and Andre Crenshaw have both contributed a spark from the bench.
The win, which raises the Bruins’ record to 7-2 (Capo Valley is also 7-2), and puts them in the tournament championship, tonight at 7:30pm at Sonora High in La Habra.
