If you’re thinking this looks familiar, that’s because it is; for the second straight year, Poly takes on Stockdale in the second round of state, hoping for a similar outcome—last year they defeated them 76-47 (and in 2007 they beat them 70-53, also in the first round of state).  The game is at Poly at 7pm.

The Mustangs’ limitations are still essentially the same as they were last year; they have nobody over 5-10, and they’re not nearly as athletic or as powerful as Poly.  They’re a sound, fundamental basketball team, and they’d need to play a nearly flawless game for 32 minutes to pull off a whopper of an upset at the Ron Palmer Pavilion tonight.

Players to watch are Jalei Kinder (#22, 5-6) who’s averaging 16.6 a game, and Melissa Sweat (#33, 5-9) averaging just over 10 points per game.  Expect to see Poly run virtually the same game plan they used in steamrolling Washington Prep in round one; knock down a few jumpers to loosen up the defense, pound it inside, and shock them with the nation’s most hassling full-court press.
