No, you don’t have déjà vu, Poly will again be hosting Etiwanda in a CIF semifinal tonight—but this time it’ll be the girls’ teams clashing, at Cabrillo at 7pm.  The Eagles are now all that stand between Poly and a fifth-consecutive CIF title game appearance.

Etiwanda’s strength, unlike most high school girls’ teams, is in the paint—their top two scorers are both post players, and they don’t lean too heavily on their guards.  Instead, if Poly wants to continue their run of defensive dominance in the postseason, they’ll contend with Jasmine Bernard (#14), a 6’1″ senior center averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds a game, and Jada Blackwell (#22), their six-foot junior power forward and top scorer.  She’s averaging 12 points a game, but is versatile enough that she can get a lot higher than that (she erupted for 20 against Millikan in the quarterfinals).  If Ta’Nitra Byrd, in her second game back from a knee injury, and Sheila Boykin can make life miserable in the paint for the Eagles, the Rabbits should be able to produce enough offense (either in the paint or on the perimeter) to roll.

St. Anthony is also in a semifinal tonight—come back to LBPOSTsports.com for live updates of both games this evening!
