Do you remember a Doug Krikorian column in the Press Telegram from a few weeks ago?  It was about Doug’s reconciliation with Manny Ramirez (after a few months of taking shots at the hitter), after Ramirez asked him out to Armenian food.  We know a few of you remember, because we got three emails from readers asking if we’d seen it, and what our thoughts were.

Normally, we keep those thoughts to ourselves—but Sports Illustrated’s Chris Ballard, writing on behalf of Barry Bonds, wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t a fan.  Using the column as an example of how easily the media forgives roided-up players who aren’t Barry Bonds, Ballard, whose column takes the form of a letter from Barry Bonds to the media and fans, writes the following:

“Just last week some joker from a Long Beach paper went on about how great Manny was because when he approached Manny for an interview and mentioned Armenian food, Manny said the two of them should go out for Armenian sometime and gave him his number. Hello! I love Armenian food. Are you telling me all it takes to change your opinion is sharing some tas kebab? Are you people really that shallow?”

Ballard writes for the back page of SI, which just six weeks ago hosted a full-page feature on then-Armada pitcher Jose Lima.  Look, we’re famous!  You can read the rest of Ballard’s column (he doesn’t have anything else to say about Doug), by clicking here.
