Hockey fans hoping the Ducks can turn around their 2-5 start to the season have a new reason to root, as do all SoCal residents, as it was announced today that the Ducks (along with stadium sponsor Honda) will donate $1,000 to Southern California Special Olympics for every victory they notch this season.  They’ll also donate $100 for every point scored by the Ducks’ leading point-scorer at the end of the season.  Given that the Ducks won 47 games last year and 48 the year before (when they also won the Stanley Cup), that could end up being a pretty hefty sum.

“We are honored that our long-time partners Honda and the Ducks have offered to support Special Olympics Southern California in this unique way,” said Bill Shumard, President & CEO, Special Olympics Southern California.  “Their generous support will help ensure that we can continue to provide quality year-round sports training and competition programs for our athletes.”  The Special Olympics (whose SoCal headquarters are across the street from Heartwell Park), provides over 13,000 intellectually disabled adults and children with the opportunity to participate in athletic activities.
