Report by the Armada’s Josh Feldman

The Capitals scored seven runs as the Armada committed five errors in the second inning en route to a 11-8 Armada loss at Telus Field on Tuesday.  The Armada fell to 10-13 while the Caps improved to 16-13.

Edmonton sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning, starting with a leadoff double by Joey Gomes.  Chad Ehrnsberger followed with a bunt single, and two batters later, Matt Ceriani reached base safely on the first of five errors in the inning.  The error allowed Gomes to score, and the next batter Mitch Graham’s two-run double put the Capitals in front, 3-0.  When the dust cleared after the second inning, seven different Capitals reached base safely and score in the seven-run, six-hit, five-error inning.

Graham finished the night three-for-five with two doubles and four runs batted in for the Capitals.

Long Beach chipped away at the Edmonton lead, which at one point was 9-0.  The Fleet strung together three hits in the fourth inning with two outs.  RBI-hits from Matt Edgecome, Andy Bouchie and Steve Young put the Armada down 9-3.

The Armada added two more in the seventh.  Bouchie led off with a triple, and Young drove him in.  Omar Bramasco later singled to score J.J. Sherrill, making it 10-5.

The Armada rally fell short in the ninth.  Leadoff man Brandon Howard singled and advanced to second on an error.  Sherrill drove in Howard to cut the Caps lead to 11-8, but Edmonton’s Derrick DePriest retired the next three to end the game.

Starting pitcher Keith Ramsey (1-3) took the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings, giving up nine runs, five earned, 10 hits, with two strikeouts and no walks.  Dustin Gober came on in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits while striking out two and walking three.  Dustin Birosak, Justin Segal and Rusty Jones eached pitched a full inning of relief.

Capitals starter Chris Little earned the win.  Little (3-1) pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on 12 hits and striking out two.
