He’s already been cleaned off, but if you take a close look at that photo of Prospector Pete above, you can pretty clearly see some bright orange paint splashed liberally around.  There is almost no doubt that it was an irate Cal State Fullerton fan, upset about their teams’ close loss to the 49ers Wednesday night (the night the vandalism occurred).  After all, if you saw JJ’s video, you know that this kind of stunt perhaps should have been expected.

The thing that we like most—yes, like—about this is that most Beach fans seemed to actually like the vandalism.  After all, Long Beach State has played two games with the Titans, decided by a total of two points.  Both games were invaded by the visiting teams’ student sections, who were loud and rowdy—now a well-known campus icon is sloshed with bright paint (which, by the way, was easily removed)?  Well, that almost sounds like a real college rivalry, doesn’t it?  If these two teams don’t meet in the Big West Tournament in Anaheim next month, they’d better play a pickup game in the parking lot—dedicated fans of both teams deserve it.
