Having no time off to heal from the battle the previous week, the California Quake faced their local rival, the SoCal Breakers. The last time the two teams met was in the second week and the Breakers held California without a touchdown. This would not be another defensive struggle.

The first quarter and much of the first half was very sluggish for both
teams. The Breakers consistently had better field position but were
unable to score against a determined Quake defense once deep into Quake
territory. At the end of the 1st Quarter, both teams had yet to score.
California managed to score midway through the 2nd as their offense
awakened. #5 Monique Zaky scored on quick 30-yard run around the left
side. With time running out before the half, the Quake had another shot
to score from the Breakers 25-yard line. #3 Deb Kuntz put a little too
much on the ball nevertheless #83 Melissa Strother made a superb diving
catch at the 12-yard line but was unable to get up and run it in for the
score before being touched down by a Breakers defender. At the half, the
Quake only had a 7-point lead.

The second half would be a much different game. The Quake consistently
moved the ball downfield, while their defense dominated and allowed only
one first down the entire second half. Zaky scored her 2nd TD on the
evening from 3 yards out. On 3rd & 10 from their own 45-yard line, Kuntz
hit #33 Julie Blied for a short pass across the middle, she made one
person miss and out ran everyone to the endzone for a 55-yard TD. The
last TD of the night was scored by #9 Kara Williams, when on 4th & 5;
the Quake went for it and pulled out the ole reverse, which worked to
perfection. Williams followed the stellar blocks by Strother and Kuntz
all the way to pay dirt.

Final score 27-0, the 4th shutout of the season.
