Wilson and Los Al’s girls’ water polo teams are familiar with each other—the coaches know each others’ styles, the players know each other, and hey, they’ve even squared off already this season, just last Friday in fact. Today, at Corona Del Mar High at 3:30pm, the Bruins are hoping to flip the script of that last meeting, an 8-3 Griffins victory.
Big-time scorers Eike Daubte and Jamie Williams were both shut out in that game, which Bruins coach Tony Martinho says is Wilson’s biggest focus. “We need to execute our offense better, move the ball better, and score.”
He also stressed the need to be more sound on defense, since Rachel Fattal scored a hat trick, and the Dodsons (Cory and Kaley) combined for four last Friday. “We have to contain their shooters if we want to win,” says Martinho.
Kelly Ringel didn’t have her best game against Los Al, but did notch 10 saves in another solid effort. “She’s great,” says Martinho. “We just need her to be Kelly—an average game from Kelly is great.”
