Long Beach and Heartwell PONY have both advanced out of Whaley’s Sectional Tournament to the next step on the way to the World Series: the Super Regional Tournament, where Long Beach is in the absolutely stacked Glendora bracket and Heartwell is in in the Whittier one.

Long Beach pulled out a defense-oriented 4-2 win over West Covina in their opener.  Jordan Ybarra started and pitched a complete game, striking out ten and walking only one.  Jonathan Pasillas singled and knocked in two runs with a triple to lead the way offensively, with two of Long Beach’s three hits; Alex Elsea had the other.

Long Beach will next face Simi Youth, Saturday at 7pm; Jeremiah Gordon will be the starting pitcher.

Heartwell also won their first game, a 7-2 win over La Costa; they’ll now face Redlands Saturday at 6pm.
