The rebuilding of any high school sports program would be impossible without two things: money, and a lot of hard work.  The Long Beach Poly girls’ volleyball team certainly has the latter in large supply, but shiny new head coach Leland McGrath, coming off his first season in which he launched his team into the top ten rankings in CIF-SS, says they need a lot more of the former.  “I have a training program I’d like to be able to implement.  And we need socks.  Seriously.”

McGrath and his team will be throwing a fundraiser at Smooth’s Saturday night to help raise money for the future of their program.  McGrath is a former pro beach and indoor volleyball player, and the fundraiser should be well-attended by other former players.  If the good cause and good mix of athletes isn’t enough, McGrath has also lined up a good slate of bands and performers, including Corin Bemus, Jeff Rubin, the Robby Armstrong Band, and his own Howlin’ Trailer Trash.  We understand McGrath may be covering Britney Spears, which would make this a can’t-miss event to be certain.
The event starts at 6pm and will go until close–the high school players will likely be leaving around 9:30 or so.
