If you were at the Poly/Jordan football game on Friday and you missed this moment at halftime, don’t beat yourself up: it was opening night for the Moore League, the marching band was on the field, maybe you had to use the little football fans’ room. But it was an important moment, and we wanted to be sure you knew about it. At halftime, Poly alum (and former Dallas Cowboy) Tony Hill presented principal Shawn Ashley with a check for $10,000, which will officially create the Leroy and Bernice Hill Academic Athlete Fund, in honor of Hill’s father and mother.
The funding was partially supplied by the charity basketball game we told you about last Spring, but largely supplied from Hill’s own pocketbook. “I just think it’s important to support Poly, and the student-athletes at this school,” Hill said after presenting Ashley with the check. He’s already committed to donating another $10,000 guaranteed in the Spring, as well as hosting another charity game at the school.
