The Armada offense didn’t set sail soon enough in Edmonton as the Capitals beat Long Beach for the second straight night, 5-1, at Telus Field on Wednesday.  Jose Lima pitched seven innings for the Armada, giving up four runs on 12 hits in a losing effort.

Long Beach dropped its third straight to fall to 10-14 on the year.  The Capitals improved to 17-13.

Lima (1-4) struck out seven Capitals while surrendering no walks.  He now has 26 strikeouts on the year compared to only three walks.

Capitals starter Kris Honel held Long Beach scoreless until the eighth inning as Edmonton tacked on runs throughout the ballgame.  Honel (2-3) earned the win in eight innings pitched, giving up one run on six hits while walking three and striking out six.

Edmonton’s Jorge Cortes tripled in the second inning and scored on a double by Aaron Hornastaj to put the Capitals on the board first.  In the seventh inning, former sailor Norm Hutchins hit a solo homerun off Lima to give the Capitals a 4-0 lead.

Brandon Howard doubled to lead off the eighth for Long Beach, and J.J. Sherrill singled him home for the Armada’s only run of the game.  Shortstop Omar Bramasco extended his hitting streak to 14 games, matching the mark set by Casey Garrison to start the season.

The Armada went error-free for the first time in 10 games.

Ben Fox takes the mound for the Armada on Thursday in the final game of the series at Telus Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 7pm MT, and all games can be heard live through www.longbeacharmada.com.
