There weren’t any surprises in week one, but that just serves to set up the biggest question mark of the season: can Poly avoid another upset to the Millikan Rams? We’ll have a full preview of that Monday matchup tomorrow, but here’s a look at where the league stands two games in.
Cabrillo—Cabrillo is a team with the possibility to post a few upsets, but we don’t know much about them since they’ve only played Compton, on opening night—they had a bye on Friday.
Compton—Compton is likely to struggle this season, and that’s proven true in their first two games, losses by a combined 95 points to Cabrillo and Jordan.
Jordan—Jordan had a bye on opening night, and beat up on Compton, 59-4, in their season opener. Their first home game is Monday, against Lakewood.
Lakewood—The Lancers lost big to Poly on Wednesday, and then had to play the league’s second power, the Millikan Rams, on Friday; they lost 50-32.
Millikan—The Rams had what may be a season-defining comeback victory against the Wilson Bruins on opening night, winning by five after coming into the fourth quarter down big. A victory against Lakewood on Friday sets up a battle of undefeateds as they host Poly on Monday.
Poly—The league’s power is looking powerful early, with a 69-point differential between they, and Lakewood and Wilson, their first two opponents. But they know the season comes down to how they play the Rams, which they’ll have to do for the first time on Monday.
Wilson—The Bruins opened against Millikan and Poly: not how most teams would want to start their season. But after nearly beating the Rams, and disrupting Poly’s offense (the Bruins held them to seven points in the second quarter), they may have built a solid foundation for the season moving forward.
