Uh, yeah, it is.  Looking at the schedule right now, I don’t want to say that next week’s games won’t matter, but…most of the standings going into the CIF playoffs will be decided by this Friday.  If you’ve ever wanted a time to take a few hours off work to see high-quality soccer, or a reason to drop a few bucks on some great basketball—don’t sleep on this week.  We’ll have the full calendar up on Wednesday with Long Beach State and LBCC stuff in it, but we wanted to make sure you got out in front of all the great high school action taking place over the next five days.

MONDAY

The (currently) second and third-place Jordan Panthers and Wilson Bruins’ boys’ soccer teams will be squaring off, in a game that will decide whose game against Millikan (both teams play the Rams next week) will mean the most.  We’ve seen both these squads, and can assure you that at 3pm on the Wilson field, you can expect some athletic, physical soccer.

Later Monday night, you’ll want to be sure you’re in the Ron Palmer Pavilion on the Poly campus for a boys/girls’ basketball doubleheader, beginning at 5pm.  First in the girls’ game, it’s the first and second place teams with Poly and Millikan—in the boys’ game immediately after, it’s a showdown between the first and fourth place teams.  Both sould be great games.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday there’s another great soccer game, as the Wilson Bruins go visit the Cabrillo Jaguars at 3pm to try out their spacious pitch.  The last time these two teams met, it was a 1-1 tie that could’ve gone either way.  As Wilson is currently third and Cabrillos is currently fourth, both teams will be looking to up their playoff seeding with a win in this game—the rubber is meeting the road, and this should be a dogfight.

That night we’ve got what may be the best basketball game of the season, as the Poly Jackrabbits, currently in first, travel to face the Jordan Panthers, currently in second, in their gym.  It’s the league’s best offense in Jordan facing the league’s best defense in Poly, and right now it’s anyone’s bet who’ll come out on top.

FRIDAY

Obviously there’s crucial boys’ soccer matches on Monday and Wednesday that will affect how important this contest is, but you can bet Jordan/Cabrillo will be an exciting one (also on the Cabrillo field at 3pm).  At the very least, it’s almost guaranteed to have more scoring than their last meeting, a 0-0 tie.

Friday night is yet another fantastic doubleheader, as Wilson and Jordan’s girls’ teams will square off at 5pm (in Wilson’s gym) to determine who places third and who places fourth in the league.  Both teams will qualify for the playoffs (unless they lose out), but the difference between being a three seed and a four seed could be big for the playoff brackets.  Then in the boys’ game, we’ll get a clash between the second and third-best teams in the league right now.  Should be a high-flying, higher-scoring affair.

SATURDAY

If you were looking for just one wrestling match to attend this year, you’ll want to check out the Millikan wrestling room at 9am on Saturday, for the League Finals.  There’s a lot of great individual wrestlers in the Moore League, and we’ll know after today who the best is.
