Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to LBPostSports’ 2009 Moore League baseball preview.  If you check the links below or the individual school pages, you’ll see that all seven teams have their own article, complete with players to watch this season.  The coaches we talked to all agreed that the league is pretty open this year, with Lakewood as a clear-cut favorite but the remaining three playoff spots up for grabs among four teams.  Looking at the way things could shake down, baseball might end up being the league’s most competitive sport of the ’08-’09 year.

The great schedule gets underway Tuesday afternoon and evening at Blair, with two games you won’t want to miss, as Poly takes on the Rams at 3:30pm, followed by Wilson facing Lakewood at 6pm.  Then on Thursday, it’s Poly/Jordan in the early game and Wilson/Millikan in the evening—a great week of ball to get the Spring started right.

Throughout the season, you can expect writeups of (hopefully) every game, score updates after they’re finished, previews, player features, and video highlights—pretty much everything you could ask for, right?  If you want to get your baseball in small, easy-to-digest doses, check in on Saturday, as we’ll be posting updated league standings each week.

Without further ado, here is our informal coaches/sportswriters poll of how the league could shake down this year—click each team’s name to read our preview article for them.

1. Lakewood

2. Wilson

3. Jordan

4. Millikan

5. Poly

6. Cabrillo

7. Compton

As a quick disclaimer—it’s really anybody’s guess from 2-5.  Poly has the consensus best pitcher in the league, and it seems ludicrous to imagine they won’t make the playoffs.  Just slightly less ludicrous, apparently, than predicting Millikan or Jordan won’t.
