To absolutely nobody’s surprise Long Beach athletes are taking over in Clovis at the CIF State Track & Field Meet. Friday was the qualifiers for Saturday’s finals, and of the 21 Long Beach individuals or relay teams competing on Friday, 17 advanced to competition on Saturday, including all 10 of Poly’s entrants (Millikan was 4-6 and Wilson 3-5). The excellent performance from top to bottom by the Jackrabbits puts their girls’ team in good position to win a second straight state championship on Saturday, and tenth in the history of the program. Long Beach athletes qualified for 9 of the 20 track events, and three of the twelve field events.
Unfortunately, due to broadcasting expense, this year’s championship won’t be televised on Fox Sports West, but some measure of the drama can be obtained by watching the live results roll in, which you can do by clicking this link. The team championships will be decided by a cumulative point total at the end of the day.
Below is a complete listing of when the events are scheduled, with events that Jackrabbits, Rams, or Bruins will be competed in bolded—we’ve noted high qualifying marks (ie, events Long Beach teams should place high in). Again, click this link for live scoring—we’ll also post a few updates Saturday evening.
