Long Beach State head women’s soccer coach Mauricio Ingrassia has announced the 49ers’ schedule for the upcoming 2009 season, with a challenging slate of opponents that should be likely to help the young roster grow up fast. The Beach will play 19 games this season, including 8 against opponents who advanced to the NCAA Tourney last year. Of the 11 non-conference games on the schedule, seven are against NCAA Tourney teams, including the San Diego squad that knocked the ‘Niners out of the bracket last year.
“Our schedule has the right mix of games to have us ready for conference,” said Ingrassia. “I’m looking forward to the growth of our team through these challenging games.”
The 49ers, who kick off the campaign with six-straight matches against 2008 NCAA tournament teams, will take on reigning Western Athletic Conference champion Fresno State at home in their season opener on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The 49ers have won three consecutive Big West regular season titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history last year—we’ll see you at George Allen Field for Fresno State and UCLA in just a few short months!
