All seven of the 49ers throwing hammers for the Beach on Friday afternoon at Mt. San Antonio College recorded their personal best distances to start the USC Invitational.

“It was a very good start to the weekend with all of our athletes setting lifetime bests,” said 49er head coach Andy Sythe.

Senior Jennifer Onyeagbako was the top finisher for the women with a personal-record 191-09, which was just 1 foot, 8 inches off the school record held by Stephanie Sampson (193-05.00). Freshman Destanie Yarbrough had a good start to her 49er career with a mark of 137-04.

On the men’s side, Colin Dunbar led the way with a toss of 180-04, while senior Kellen Boaz notched a lifetime best 174-08.

Long Beach State continues action on Saturday at USC’s Loker Stadium. The field events are set to get underway at 9 a.m. with the javelin throw, while the track events will begin with the first section of the women’s 3000-meter run at 10 a.m.
