Matt Kresky’s power play goal with 1:14 remaining in the third period gave the Long Beach 49ers the 3-2 edge over the Texas A&M Aggies. Ricky St. Louis played brilliantly in net for the Beach, which earned its first home win of the season.

In the first period, Kevin Brown struck first for the Beach with a power goal off a Sean Hoang rebound. The 1-0 lead carried through to the second period until the Aggies tied the score two minutes in. With 15:49 in the second, Adam Lamarche’s power play goal put the 49ers up 2-1 until the Aggies tied the score again 10 minutes later.

As the game wound down, overtime seemed eminent until the Aggies handed the 49ers their ninth power play opportunity. From the right point, Jason Elliot sent a perfect pass to Kresky which Kresky deflected in for the game winner.

The 49ers nearly gave the game away at the end, giving the Aggies a two-man advantage with 44 seconds to play. The Aggies pulled their goaltender but the Beach fended off the 6-on-3 attack to hang on for the victory. Next up for the Beach: Metro State Univ. Jan 17 @ 9pm at Glacial Gardens.
