While you’ll read plenty of ink here and around the local sports journalistic sphere about high school volleyball, you may not know that the high school season is just one part of these athletes’ often-extensive year-round playing schedule.  The world of club volleyball is vast and complex, and the whole thing comes to a head every year around this time in Reno, at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships, which recently got underway.

There’s so much local talent at this tournament it’s nearly impossible to sort through it all (especially since rosters aren’t available on the USA VBall website)—we do know that in the 18 Open Division alone, for example, there’s the Sports Shack 18 Asics team, featuring Wilson’s Rebecca Strehlow and Lakewood senior Jazmine Orozco; there’s the Mizuno LB 18 Rockstar, with Bruins Kellie Woolever, Kellie Culbertson, Candace Nicholson, and Krosby Pabst; Laguna Beach 18 MS has Poly’s Rainette Uiato; and Orange County 18 Roxy has Jenna McNaney from Wilson.

You can scour the USA Volleyabll site for the lower division teams (click here for the link), but we’ll keep you updated on the 18 Open Division as their matches get underway on June 29.
