From LBSU reports

Women’s water polo picked up a split for the second straight day at the Triton Invitational, finishing in sixth-place at the 16-team tournament. The 49ers beat host UC San Diego 9-4 before falling in the fifth-place game against UC Irvine 10-7.

Long Beach State got to work early against the host Tritons in the first match of the day. The 49ers scored the first five goals of the match, taking a 6-1 lead into the half. In all, the 49ers held UCSD to just four goals in the 9-4 win.

Against No. 12 UC Irvine in the fifth-place match, the 49ers and the Anteaters battled to a 1-1 tie after one quarter. Four second-quarter goals from UC Irvine’s Julia Fancer put the Anteaters ahead 6-4 at the half however, and the 49ers would not be able to close the gap despite three goals each from Kelsie Emerick and Katie Rogers.

Long Beach State continues tournament play next weekend, traveling to UC Irvine to play in the UC Irvine Invitational, the second of three straight tournaments the team will play in.  Their next home match isn’t until March 18th, when they host Princeton.
