On opening day of the Irvine Invitational, Long Beach State lost in every possible way, opening with an 18-2 loss to UCLA before dropping a heartbreaker to UCI in overtime, 7-6.
Long Beach State’s Krizia Cerda and Lauren Sieprath chipped in the team’s two goals against UCLA, sending the team to the back half of the draw where they faced host UC Irvine. The Beach rallied from a one-goal deficit at halftime to take a 6-4 lead going into the final period, but UC Irvine tied up the game in the fourth period and scored the only overtime tally to take the win.
Sieprath and Cecilia Canetti led the 49ers with two goals each against UC Irvine. Long Beach State starts off Sunday with a 10:30am match against UC Santa Barbara, and then will continue on for one final game at the UC Irvine tournament.
