Long Beach State freshman midfielder Shawna Gordon (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos HS) was recently invited to participate in the U-20 National Team camp held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, a fitting reward for one of the most talented Freshman in the nation. Gordon, who wrapped up a week-long training camp last Saturday, is a member of the player pool from which the 2010 U-20 Women’s World Cup team will be chosen.
“Shawna is deserving of this opportunity as she has been playing at a very high level this entire spring,” said 49er head coach Mauricio Ingrassia. “She has come a long way from her first few weeks here and we are looking forward to her continued development.”
In her first season at LBSU, Gordon appeared in 23 games, earning the starting nod 16 times. She tallied one goal and two assists as the 49ers won their third consecutive conference championship and made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Gordon was recognized for her efforts as she earned Big West honorable mention recognition.
Prior to her arrival at The Beach, Gordon played for the U-17 National Team, scoring a goal and recording an assist.
