The LBSU women’s water polo team fought hard against nationally-ranked LMU, but ended up with a 9-5 loss to the Lions. Branwyn Lee led the 49ers with two goals on the day, and Kristen Stragier had a total of seven saves.
No. 10 Loyola Marymount jumped out to an early lead against the 49ers, outscoring the Beach 5-1 to start the match, as Diana Romero picked up two goals in the opening frame. Trailing 6-1 after the first period, Kristen Stragier stepped up with four saves in the second half, while Lee added a second goal to cut back the lead in the fourth period.
Despite Long Beach State outscoring the Lions 4-3 in the second half, the deficit was too great for the 49ers to overcome.
The team returns to the campus pool on Sunday, to try and get its second home win of the week. The 49ers host Cal State Bakersfield at noon.
