Senior guard Karina Figueroa (Corona, Calif./Rosary HS) has been named the Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Figueroa earned the honor after leading The Beach to back-to-back wins over conference-leading Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
The Corona, Calif., native started the week by pouring in a season-high tying 26 points in a 72-65 victory against the Mustangs. She went 10-for-20 from the field and 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Figueroa also added team highs in rebounds (8) and assists (7).
Figueroa then led the 49ers to a 65-62 triumph over UCSB in the next game, clinching a season sweep of the Gauchos for the first time since 1990-91. She connected on 8-of-16 from the field and added four more 3-pointers, while collecting six assists and three rebounds.
For the week, Figueroa averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. She shot 50.0 percent from the field and posted an even more impressive 66.7 percent clip from beyond the arc.
It is Figueroa’s first weekly award of her career and the second for Long Beach State this season. Senior Ally Wade previously earned the honor on Nov. 23
The Beach is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 18, when it heads to UC Davis for a 7 p.m. Big West showdown.
