Long Beach State freshman Simone Hoey shot a two-over 74 on Tuesday’s second round of the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch in Santa Clarita to move up in the standings from 46th to tie for 30th.
Hoey was par for the first 14 holes with two birdies coming in at the par-four 373 yard No. 1 hole and at the par-four No. 8 hole (244 yards). Hoey recorded two bogeys at the 15th and 17th holes and a double-bogey at the 18th.
The 49ers shot a 312 (+24) in the second round and currently tied for 13th with Cal State Northridge with a 620. Tournament co-host and top ranked UCLA leads the field of 18 teams with an even 576 and leads co-host No. 9 Pepperdine and No. 6 Southern California by four strokes.
Sophomore Monica Villarreal tied for 44th as she finished the day with an eight-over 80, followed by fellow classmate Noelle Zavaleta tied for 69th as she carded a 79.
Senior Brenda Chhuor remained tied for 74th as she shot a 79 (+7) and junior Reina Rogers tied for 79th with an 81 (+9).
Stephanie Kono of UCLA sits on top of the leaderboard as she carded a 68 and holds a one shot lead over Danielle Kang of Pepperdine.
