After winning eight straight, Long Beach State dropped a one-point decision to Nevada last week, the 49ers bounced back in a big way against visiting Cornell Wednesday afternoon.  They took the doubles point in a sweep, and then won all six singles matches in the 7-0 victory, only dropping a single set all day.

The 49ers started their work early with the doubles point. Rachel Manasse and Anais Dallara cruised to an 8-2 win in No. 2 singles, and Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Suttton clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Cornell’s Googe/Miller.

In singles, Hannah Grady and Anais Dallara picked up the two most convincing wins, taking No. 1 and No. 4 singles respectively by 6-1, 6-1 scores. Armstrong, Manasse and Julie Luzar each won in straight sets, and Lisa Sutton rebounded from a first set loss to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Beach Tennis hosts two more matches in a busy week. First, the 49ers take on No. 75 Louisville on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., and then LBSU will host No. 42 on Saturday at 11am. Both matches will be held at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

Yesterday, JJ kicked off the first in a short series of features written to help you get acquainted with this team, one of the most dominant currently at the university.  Click here to read it, and stay tuned throughout the week.
