Long Beach State played well at the ITA Regionals in San Diego on Saturday, as the 49ers saw Hannah Grady and Stephanie Jeanes win two matches to advance to the main draw doubles finals, while Jeanes and Deborah Armstrong both advanced to the consolation singles semifinals on Sunday.

The 49ers’ doubles fortunes continued, as Grady and Jeanes kept building their success. The tandem first dropped Hausman and Murphy 8-5 before moving to the semifinals with a 9-7 win over Maskaljun and Razina of UNLV. They will play Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna, the doubles draw second seed tomorrow in the semifinals.  Also advancing to the semifinals in consolation doubles were Armstrong and her partner Lisa Sutton, who won 9-8 (7-4) over Landsman and Masschelein of Arizona in a tough match before beating San Diego’s Perl and Raygada 8-4 to continue into the final day.

In singles, Hannah Grady was stopped in the quarterfinals by eighth-seeded Maria Sanchez of USC by a tally of 6-0, 6-2. In back draw play, the 49ers had a big day however, as both Armstrong and Jeanes advanced to the final day by picking up two wins. Jeanes was in strong form, picking up two wins by the scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1, while Armstrong had the tougher road, outlasting San Diego’s Samantha Mouly in the tiebreaker 12-10 after splitting the first two sets.
