The top-seeded 49ers got out to a fast start at the Big West women’s tennis championships on Friday, defeating No. 8 seed Cal State Fullerton 4-0 in the first of three days of play.

The 49ers, ranked No. 45 in the country, started off their time at the Big West Championships Friday morning by playing the Titans, who advanced after winning the play-in match on Wednesday morning.

In doubles, the 49ers picked up a pair of quick wins as Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar defeated Akhmedova/Wiesener 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, while Anais Dallara and Deborah Armstrong won 8-2 to take the point over Cruz/delaCruz.

Cantlay continued to roll on the day, not dropping a game to Lani Asalud at No. 6 singles in a 6-0, 6-0 victory for her second win. Rachel Manasse was the second player to finish at singles, defeating Jaycee Cruz 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and Dallara clinched the match for the 49ers with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Monica Rodriguez at No. 2 singles.

In the tournament format, once the match is decided all other matches are suspended. The 49ers return to action tomorrow morning, playing in the semifinals at 9 a.m.
