Sophomore Julie Luzar started the year with a perfect 3-0 record in singles, defeating Pacific’s Olga Gumenyuk 6-1, 6-3 to win the Flight C championship at the Cal NIKE Invitational.

Long Beach State came up just short in the team’s other finals appearance on Sunday, as the doubles team of Armstrong and Dallara lost a very competitive match in Flight B doubles to Davis/Siwosz of Cal, 8-4 in a tighter match than the score indicated.

In other singles action on the day, Jaklin Alawi fell to the #71 player in the country, Ana-Maria Constantinescu of Oklahoma 6-1, 6-4, while Anna Jeczmionka lost to Nevada’s Lais Ogata in three sets.
