Long Beach State’s Deborah Armstrong picked up a win in back draw singles before falling in the back draw quarterfinals to highlight Long Beach State’s final day at the ITA Regionals. Beach Tennis will resume competition in the Spring.

Anais Dallara was Long Beach State’s final player competing in the main draw in the ITA regionals, and the No. 12 seed was finally defeated in the Round of 16, losing to No. 5 seed Danielle Lao of USC 6-1, 6-1.

In the back draw, Armstrong defeated LMU’s Jasmin Heckel 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, but then was defeated by Stephanie Hoffpauir 7-5, 6-0 after losing a close first set to the UCLA freshman.  In doubles, Julie Luzar and Anna Jeczmionka were stopped by Ojeda/Onaga of UCSB 8-3 to close out the tournament draw for The Beach.

In other action, Luzar defeated Onaga in singles 6-4, 6-3, while Jeczmionka beat Amira Massi of CS Northridge 6-2, 6-0. Rachel Manasse lost to Natalia Lozano of UCSB in an 8-4 loss, with the duo only playing a super-tiebreaker.

Beach Tennis picks back up in 2010 with the team season. Long Beach State starts at USC on January 21.
