Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse completed a perfect tournament in their first action together, winning the Flight A doubles title at the Fullerton Invitational with a 9-7 win over Cal Poly’s Blalock/Wong.

Julie Luzar won her second championship of the fall season, one week after taking the Flight C singles championship at the Cal Invitational. Luzar recovered from a 6-3 first set loss to defeat Joclyn Davis of Cal Poly 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. With the win, Luzar improved her record on the season to 8-0.

In doubles, Alawi and Manasse completed their impressive run through the top doubles flight. One day after beating the #30 duo of Markhoff/Matzenauer from Cal Poly, the Long Beach State pair beat another Mustang doubles partnership in the finals.

Trailing 7-4 and one game from losing the match, Alawi and Manasse won five straight games to take a 9-7 win over Blalock/Wong to win the doubles championship. In doing so, the 49er duo defeated two Cal Poly doubles teams that had been ranked in the Top 40 in the last two seasons.

Long Beach State concludes its fall season at the ITA West Regionals, beginning on October 22 in San Diego.
