The 49ers leaned on four singles wins to advance to their ninth straight championship match, defeating Cal State Northridge 4-2 yesterday afternoon. The 49ers will face UC Irvine Sunday for the right to go to the NCAA Tournament, as well as their sixth consecutive Big West championship.
Long Beach State had a chance at the doubles point, after Anais Dallara and Rachel Manasse pulled out an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Matadors’ Jaworowski/Sirojiddinova took a 9-7 win over Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton to clinch the doubles point.
The 49ers rebounded in singles however, taking the top four matches to clinch the match. Armstrong made quick work of Brooke Doane, winning 6-0, 6-2, and after wins from Hannah Grady and Rachel Manasse at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Anais Dallara clinched the match with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Whitney Paluch.
Beach Tennis will play UC Irvine Sunday starting at 9 a.m. at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
