Junior Rajan Bains has been named the Big West Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bains led the 49ers to their third consecutive Big West Challenge Cup as he compiled a total of 28 points with runner-up performances in each of his four events.

The Fresno, Calif., native recorded an effort of 181-00 in the hammer, 162-00 in the discus, 52-04 in the shot put and 162-04 in the javelin. All four of his marks were lifetime bests and Big West qualifiers.

The Long Beach State track and field team returns to action on Thursday when it kicks off the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The 49ers are also set to host the Beach Invitational, April 16-17, at Cerritos College.
