Junior ace Brooke Turner struggled this year with the newly-enforced illegal pitch rule—she put it together and adjusted her game in time to win the final Big West Pitcher of the Week award of the season. It is her third honor of the year and 13th of her career.
Turner was dominant in the circle against UC Riverside, leading Long Beach State to its first series sweep of the season.
The Buena Park, Calif., native got the 49ers off to a strong start, tossing a two-hitter in a complete game shutout. Turner registered at least one strikeout in every inning, finishing in double figures with 10. Turner also did not allow a walk as she faced just three batters over the minimum.
Turner then led The Beach to a 4-0 victory in the finale, scattering four hits and issuing one walk. She finished with six strikeouts and allowed just one runner to advance into scoring position.
Overall, Turner posted a 0.00 earned run average and held the Highlanders to a .122 batting average. She tallied 16 strikeouts against one walk.
Turner ranks among Long Beach State’s career leaders in strikeouts (2nd, 521), wins (5th, 58), shutouts (T5th, 28), complete games (7th, 65) and appearances (8th, 97).
