Junior Christina Schallig (Carson, Calif./California) has been named the Big West Softball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Schallig led Long Beach State to a 2-1 series win at Cal State Northridge last weekend. In the opener, she got the 49ers on the board with her first home run of the season. Schallig then came around to score the go-ahead run in the sixth inning after drawing a two-out walk as The Beach went on to a 6-4 victory.
Schallig saved her best performance for the finale, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. She punched a two-out, two RBI single through the right side to give the 49ers an early lead before knocking out her second long ball in her next at bat.
On the weekend, Schallig led The Beach with a .400 (4-for-10) batting average, four runs scored and four RBI. She reached base safely in all three games, finishing with a .500 on base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Long Beach State returns to action April 17-18 when it heads north to UC Davis for a Big West Conference series.
