As a reward for being a major masher last week, junior Kristen Pocock has been named the co-Big West Field Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. It is Pocock’s second weekly honor of the season, and she shares the award with Pacific’s Nicole Matson. Pocock, a catcher/designated player, batted .471 (8-for-17) with four RBI, two runs scored, three doubles, one triple and two walks during the 49ers’ 5-0 showing at the Mayfair Tournament this past weekend.
She had three multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 performance in the opener against Iowa State. Pocock also drove in the mercy-rule runs in a 9-1 win over the Cyclones and an 8-0 defeat of No. 12/15 Fresno State. On the season, Pocock leads The Beach with a .370 batting average and 12 walks. She is also second on the squad with five doubles and third in RBI (11) and home runs (2).
The 49ers return to action March 6-8, when they host the Long Beach State Invitational at Mayfair Park. LBSU kicks off the weekend with two games on Friday as it takes on Longwood (9am) and FIU (3:45pm).
