The Long Beach State softball team (6-11) used a four-run second inning to propel it to a 6-2 win over Buffalo, snapping a five-game losing streak Saturday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex.
Junior Brooke Turner (3-3) went the distance for The Beach, compiling a season-high nine strikeouts.
The 49ers also had a season-best 10 hits and were led by senior Ashley Weber, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Liz Javier added a pair of hits, while freshman Caitrin DeBaun drove in two runs.
LBSU came alive in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on four hits. DeBaun highlighted the inning with a two-run double. Weber also drove in a run with her first hit of the game.
Buffalo (5-6) cut LBSU’s lead in half with two runs in the top of the third, but The Beach responded in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Nalani St. Germain led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Javier. Junior Christina Schallig then plated St. Germain with a sacrifice fly.
Long Beach State tacked on one more run in the fifth when senior Brandy Reyes doubled home sophomore Alisha Rosen.
LBSU was scheduled to take on fifth-ranked UCLA at 7 p.m., but the game has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
