After a strong 5-1 opening to Big West play at home in the 49er Softball Complex, the 49ers are sitting at the top of the Big West standings—just below them, at 4-2, are the Cal Poly Mustangs, who the ‘Niners travel to face this weekend on April 10-11. The two teams are set to square off in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Friday, before closing out the weekend with a single game on Saturday (Noon).
The task for the 49ers is huge—they’re .500 on the road so far this season, and 13-3 at home. The fact that it’s on the road would be enough to overcome, but the Mustangs also have a home winning streak of 15 games after last weekend’s sweep of UC Santa Barbara.
Long Beach State leads in its all-time series with Cal Poly by a 31-12 count. The 49ers went 2-1 against the Mustangs last year, winning the opener (3-1) and the finale (3-0), but dropping the second game by a narrow 4-3 margin. The Beach is 12-7 when playing in San Luis Obispo.
