The Long Beach State women’s soccer team (5-9-3, 1-4-1 BWC) wraps up the regular season on the road this week as it heads to UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge for a pair of Big West Conference matches. The 49ers will square off against UCI at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, before returning to action on Sunday (Nov. 1) when they tangle with CSUN at 1 p.m.
UC Irvine (10-6-2, 3-3-1 BWC) has outscored its opponents 32-18 on the year and are led by Tanya Taylor and Dana Sanderlin, who have compiled six goals and four assists each. Danielle de Seriere has manned the net, posting a 0.98 goals against average.
Cal State Northridge enters the week ranked ninth in the West Region with a 9-9 overall record and a 5-2 mark in conference play. The Matadors defeated UC Irvine, 1-0, on Sunday to secure a berth in the Big West Tournament. Farryn Townley has paced the team with eight goals, 17 points and 32 shots.
Long Beach State trails in its series with UC Irvine, 5-7-3. The two teams battled to a scoreless double overtime tie in the last meeting at George Allen Field on Oct. 12, 2008. The 49ers are looking for their first road victory against the Anteaters as they are 0-5-1 when playing in Irvine.
LBSU leads in its series with Cal State Northridge, 6-5-1. The 49ers have won the last three meetings, including a convincing 5-0 home victory on Oct. 26, 2008. The last time The Beach fell to the Matadors was in 2005.
