Karina Figueroa (who is still technically a student at Long Beach State) played 15 minutes for the Sparks last Saturday in their first preseason game; she and the rest of the team will be in the Pyramid this Saturday—admission is free for students, and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
We aren’t well-versed enough in WNBA cycles to know what that kind of playing time means towards her chances of making the regular season roster, but she was the only undrafted rookie mentioned in the Sparks’ official training camp report. Here’s her section, taken from the “notes”:
Long Beach State guard Karina Figueroa came into training camp after signing a TC contract and the lefty has so far dazzled us with her dimes and sweet short “j.”
In the game last Saturday, against the Chinese national team, the Sparks won 78-58, with five Sparks notching double digits. Figueroa went 0-3 but was 2-2 from the foul stripe, with three assists, one steal and one rebound. Be sure to come out to the game this Saturday, where we can pretty much guarantee she’ll have a huge cheering section. If you’re looking to come properly attired, you can actually now purchase a Karina Figueroa jersey on the Sparks’ official website (if you’re a guy, we’d recommend the XL sizing). Click here for their jersey section, and we’ll see you in the Pyramid on Saturday!
