Freshman Janelle Coulter won the high jump as the Long Beach State track and field team concluded competition at the USC Invitational at Loker Stadium on Saturday.

Coulter, who was the runner up in the high jump at the 2008 California state high school championships, was the top finisher on Saturday, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches. The Aptos, Calif., native moved closer to an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 5-08.75.

Sophomore Katelyn Beighton added a strong showing in the pole vault, establishing a lifetime best 12-01.50.

Senior Jennifer Onyeagbako, who posted a personal record in the hammer throw on Friday, finished with solid marks in the discus (159-00) and shot put (45-02).

Sophomore Rajan Bains paced the 49er men with solid performances in the discus and shot put. Bains displayed big improvements with a mark of 164-00 in the discus, while breaking the 50-foot barrier in the shot put for the first time in his career.

The Beach will return to action next weekend with a split squad as they travels to the Stanford Invitational (March 27-28) and the Cal-Nevada Championships (March 28-29) in Westwood.
