The 49ers have been on a roll lately—sometimes a road swing can either disrupt that kind of momentum, or speed it on.  First on Friday night at Pacific, it looked like the former, as the Tigers took an extra-points first set, 33-31.  But the 49ers rallied to win the next three straight, picking up a huge MPSF win that vaults them over Hawaii into sole possession of fourth place, behind Stanford, Northridge, and Pepperdine.  They knocked off the Tigers by scores of 31-33, 30-25, 30-23, 30-26, in a total team effort that saw five players with double-digit kills.

The 49ers defensive play at the net continued to dominate, with the team racking up 12 team blocks, to Pacific’s 7.

Dean Bittner finished with a team-high 14 kills, two aces, five digs and five blocks, and Antwain Aguillard added 13 kills and four blocks, continuing his unbelievable streak—he hit .700+ again, which puts him at .523 on the season in his first year with the team.  Tommy Pestolesi and Jim Baughman had 12 kills each and Dan Alexander finished with 10 kills. Long Beach State (9-6, 7-4 MPSF) finished with a team hitting percentage of .306 on 124 swings.  Conor Eaton handed out 50 assists, while Kirk Francis led the 49ers defense with 12 digs.  They held Pacific to no higher than .258 in any set following the first.

The 49ers travel to play Stanford Saturday night, as the Cardinal just moved into first place on Friday.
