Long Beach State men’s volleyball interim head coach Andy Read got his first commitment as the head of the program when setter Connor Olbright signed a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period.
Olbright (El Modena High School/Orange, Calif.) has been a member of the USA Youth National Team the last two years. In 2009, the 6-foot-4, 175-pound Olbright helped Team USA to a 10th-place finish at the World Championships in Jessolo, Italy. In 2008 he led the team to the NORCECA championship in Miami, Fla., which qualified the team for the Youth World Championships.
Olbright was a first-team All-Century League selection at El Modena High School in both 2008 and 2009, while also earning Century League Player of the Year honors in 2009. In club action, Olbright helped the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club to the gold medal at the 16-Open Junior Olympics where he was named first-team All-America in 2008. This year he helped the club to a gold medal at the 17-Open Junior Olympics where he was named the MVP of the 17 Open.
“We are very excited to have Connor join the family here at The Beach,” Read said. “We love that Connor is a winner and he will provide our team with a nice block and point scoring serve from the setter position.”
